Summary

Collaboratively work together to learn techniques for producing music from field recordings using Abelton Live. *workshop will be held offsite at Cherry St Pier.

Description

Special new workshop alert!

This collaborative music production workshop will focus on using field recordings from the environment to create experimental digital music, turning everyday sounds, objects and voice into samples for looping and structuring as layers for a 30 minute audio piece and a few shorter individual pieces. The finished work will be presented as a radio special on WPPM and used as soundscapes for short video pieces produced with Termite TV.

Participants will learn field recording techniques, and how to turn them into samples using Abelton Live and working with other DAW  (Digital Application Workstations) for simple audio editing.

The workshop is open to the public. However, if you needed access to PhillyCAM computers or equipment outside of the workshop, you will have to be a member and receive the proper training and facility access. Participants should be available and willing to experiment, work collaboratively and dive into a creative, emergent process.  No prior experience required!  We hope that upon completion participants are interested in continuing to explore creative audio projects with WPPM and/or Termite TV.

This workshop has a sliding scale from 0-$50, with a recommended fee of $25.

Instructor: Lorne Peart

This workshop is a collaboration between WPPM/PhillyCAM, Termite TV and MagzFM

About Termite TV:
Termite TV Collective makes media to challenge rigid structures through formal disruption, experimental methods, and community engagement. Just as the subterranean termite tears away at structural foundations through ingenuity and collective practice, Termite TV Collective believes that an expanded visual language is the vehicle for imagining new futures and provoking new thinking on pressing issues of our time. We work collectively and collaboratively, encouraging the freedom to explore with a sense of playfulness, spontaneity, and discovery. Through individual expression radiating out from common themes, Termites co-create space for idea sharing and collective world-building.
